Be the Captain (America) of Your Weekend

We've got details on this weekend's happenings and more in today's "5 Things You Need to Know Today."

1. Rain is a possibility today, albeit a slight one.

The National Weather Service says there is a 20-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m. Otherwise, we should see mostly sunny skies today with a high near 93, coupled with heat index values as high as 99, while tonight should be partly cloudy with the low near 71.

2. Things happening today include the Community Makeover service project, which spans Paulding and several nearby counties and the monthly Georgia Classic Rides event in downtown Dallas. Looking to see what else is going on? We’ve got an events calendar just for you, and you can add community events to it.

3. Should you assemble your avengers and go see Captain America in the theater this weekend? We’ve got a movie review, coupled with an appropriate restaurant suggestion, that will let you know if you should pay to marvel at Marvel’s latest film.

4. We look forward to next weekend, when the Paulding Bowling Center hosts the American Wheelchair Bowling Association's Eighth-Annual Southern Open. We’ll bring you a preview video on the event early next week.

5. We were educated Thursday on how many Paulding County Schools made Adequate Yearly Progress. We’ve got those details as well as which schools will remain in or enter “Needs Improvement” status and what kept schools from making AYP.
