Boy Found in Pool Tuesday Dies

The 22-month-old Powder Springs boy died after being taken off life support Thursday.

The 22-month-old Powder Springs boy who had been found Tuesday afternoon in his family’s above-ground pool unresponsive and not breathing has died.

According to a release from PCSO Sgt. Brandon Gurley sent just after noon today, the child had been removed from life support this morning while at Scottish Rite. He said criminal charges are not expected as indications point to the drowning being accidental.

Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and Paulding County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the boy’s Cowart Drive home about 4 p.m. Tuesday after the child apparently managed to get out of the house and into the family’s pool, where he was found a short time later by a family member. He was unresponsive and not breathing when emergency personnel arrived.

The boy was then taken by ground to WellStar Douglas Hospital and later by air to Scottish Rite.

Authorities are reminding residents of safety precautions to take around pools, even low-cost inflatable ones. See our story from July that shared some of these precautions after a Dallas woman nearly lost her daughter in a near-drowning incident.
