Child Molestation Suspect Arrested

Carl Michael Janflone, a Paulding County Sheriff's deputy, was arrested at his Canton home. The victim was "familiar" to Janflone, authorities said.

A Paulding County Sheriff's Office deputy at the center of a sexual abuse investigation in Canton has been fired, authorities said this afternoon.

Dep. Carl Michael Janflone was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Friday at his Canton home on charges of child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

"A report was filed by a third party, with the Canton Police Department, on September 29 in reference to the sexual abuse," Canton Police spokeswoman Det. Candy Worthy said in a news release. "Janflone was arrested without incident and was taken to the Cherokee County Jail for booking and bonding procedures. Additional charges are pending and the investigation is open and ongoing."

Until his termination, Janflone, 53, had been with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office for four years.

"The Sheriff’s Office is aware of the criminal investigation and arrest of one of our deputies by the Canton Police Department," said Sgt. Brandon Gurley, the spokesman for the Paulding County Sheriff's Office. "We are in full cooperation with Canton Police to aid in their investigation."
