Memorial Celebration for Late Pastor Today

Family and friends will gather at West Ridge Church today for visitation and a memorial service honoring Andrew Pray, a worship pastor at the church who died last week after being struck by a bus while biking in Bartow County.

Updated 3:55 a.m. Tuesday

We reported yesterday that police have charged the man who was driving the charter bus that struck and killed Andrew Pray in Bartow County a day before Thanksgiving. (You’ll find that story at this link.)

Family, friends and the West Ridge Church community will gather at the church today for Pray’s visitation and memorial service. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until noon, with the memorial celebration set for 1 p.m. (Get more details of Pray’s funeral arrangements and see today’s list of funeral announcements at this link.)

Visitation and a memorial celebration also will be held in Rogers, Ark., later this week. Pray was an Arkansas native.

West Ridge Church has established a fund to assist the Pray family with funeral costs and other needs. Those interested in donating can donate online at this link or write a check to West Ridge Church and put “Pray Family” in the memo line.

The church also announced arrangements in Pray’s honor. Visitation will be held at West Ridge’s East Paulding campus Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon, with a memorial celebration set for 1 p.m.

But before Tuesday’s events, Lead Pastor Brian Bloye said the church community Sunday will gather in praise just as Pray would’ve wanted it to.

“Tomorrow morning, we will gather together as a church family in East Paulding and Cartersville to lift up the name of Jesus and to look to our Father, God for strength,” Bloye wrote on the church’s website. “As Andrew would say, “Let’s have church!’”

Updated 9:45 p.m. Wednesday

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Wednesday night reported that Pray was struck by a charter bus about 12:30 p.m. as he rode his bicycle along U.S. 41 in Emerson in Bartow County.

Pray was taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, the newspaper also reported, but did not survive.

Original story

Members and staff of West Ridge Church were reeling Wednesday night after the reported passing of Andrew Pray, who served as a worship pastor at the church.

“It is with deep sorrow and hurt that we have to tell you that our beloved brother Andrew Pray has passed away on November 21st. He was involved in a biking accident and was stuck by a vehicle today. That is all that we know at the moment,” the church posted Wednesday on its website. “Please be praying for Andrew’s wife Courtnie and kids Noah, Halle and Carson.”

You may share your memories of Andrew in the comments below. You can also upload photos to this article by clicking the "Upload Photos and Videos" button underneath the photo on the right.

Pray on his Facebook page described himself as an avid cyclist, as well as “[an] aspiring cook, sports fan, cereal lover, and saved by the grace of God.” He was a native of Springdale, Ark.

Church officials also posted news of Pray’s passing on West Ridge’s Facebook page. By 8:45 p.m., more than 300 comments had been received.
