County Furlough Days Get Commissioners’ Approval

Government offices are set to be closed on seven furlough days approved Tuesday by the Board of Commissioners.

Those seeking to visit government offices on certain Fridays in fiscal year 2012 might need to be sure to check a calendar before heading out the door.

The Paulding Board of Commissioners Tuesday night adopted a resolution setting furlough days for the upcoming fiscal year; government offices will be closed on those days, though the closures will not affect public safety operations.

The move will save the county an estimated $566,000 from the furloughs and closure of county facilities and is just one of the approximately $2.3 million in cuts county leaders have or plan to enact for the upcoming fiscal year.

The scheduled furlough/government closure days are July 29; Sept. 2 and 23; Jan. 20, 2012; March 23, 2012; April 20, 2012; and June 1, 2012—all Fridays, with most preceding holiday weekends.

• Gave County Attorney Jayson Phillips and county staff the authority to begin negotiations for acquisition of two parcels of land for public purposes as discussed in closed session during Tuesday’s work session. Details of the transactions shall be disclosed in the meeting minutes upon completion or abandonment of the acquisitions.

• Approved Asphalt Contract 1 to C.W. Matthews for $1,961,656.57, and Contract 2 to E.R. Snell for $189,579.65.

• Gave county staff the authority to conduct contract negotiations with FL Graphics for a kiosk sign program.

• Approved renewal of a contract with the Georgia Department of Corrections for an inmate work detail at a cost of $39,500.

• Adopted a resolution to impose a 911 charge of 75 cents per transaction on prepaid wireless service.
