Dallas Church's 'River of Life' Welcomes Out-of-Town Youth Groups This Week
The public is invited to a celebratory worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Dallas Theater. A covered-dish luncheon will follow at Dallas First United Methodist Church (but bring a dish).
Young people and their leaders from as far away as North Carolina and Valdosta will be working Thursday through Saturday on more than a dozen home improvement projects for the elderly, handicapped and disadvantaged.
Volunteer Coordinator Lynn Cochran said the church has been working "for months" to prepare for this event.
Between 100 and 120 young people will be working at 15 sites. Among the projects are building wheelchair ramps and painting, she said.
The week's work will conclude with a special worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Dallas Theater.
Reports will be given by youth workers and some of the clients who were helped by the young people, Cochran added.
Afterward, a covered-dish lunch will be held in the Family Life Center at the church. Anyone planning to attend the lunch also should bring a covered dish so that everyone can be served, she advised.
