In case you’re not aware, today is Memorial Day, the federal holiday aimed at paying tribute to those who died while serving in our nation’s military. According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the holiday seemingly dates back to the 1860s.
Like most federal holidays, you’ll find that government offices, post offices and banks, along with some businesses, will be closed in observance of the day.
If you have the day off, you may want to spent part of it in downtown Dallas, which will be the site of the annual Memorial Day service.
Offices closed today should open back up on Tuesday. But for those this week needing services provided by Paulding County, you may want to get that business out of the way early, as county offices will be closed Friday—it’s the seventh and final furlough day of Paulding’s 2012 fiscal year.
The Paulding County Board of Commissioners last June set the furlough days—a move aimed at saving an estimated $566,000 as part of a package of an estimated $2.3 million in cuts to the county’s budget.
