BOC Approves Radio System Board

The board will resolve issues and oversee proposed budgets regarding the new trunk radio system the county plans to begin using.

Paulding County officials are creating a radio system user board to have in place when the county begins using its new trunk radio system to comply with the FCC’s new narrow banding requirement. The Board of Commissioners voted on Tuesday to adopt a resolution that would establish the board.

Officials said there will be a user agreement between Paulding County and any other entity, such as a city or the school system, who uses the radio system. The user board will have the authority to resolve issues between the various issues, review proposed budgets and address any or all issues that could arise. All entities using the system will have voting members on the board. The chairman will be the 911 director. The 911 department will also have one other voting representative.

The new radio system will operate county-wide and let everyone communicate effectively when there are emergencies.

The BOC also approved a resolution that would create a new fee schedule regarding alcoholic beverages, which will go into effect on July 1. This is the first major revision to this chapter of the county's code of ordinances since 2004. Some changes included in the revised ordinance include changing the restaurant seating requirement from 70 seats to 50 with a 50/50 food/alcohol sale ratio, including license fees for wholesalers located outside Paulding County and creating an alcohol license review board. The BOC will vote on recommendations for board members. Decisions made by the board can be appealed to Paulding County Superior Court. The new ordinance does not change distance requirements for sales and rules prohibiting bars and night clubs.

In other business, the BOC:

  • Awarded a feasibility and cost-benefit analysis study for constructing a complete privately-owned carrier-class optical network for the county to Manweiler Telecom Consulting, Inc. at a cost of $56,525;
  • Voted to submit an annual Association County Commissioners of Georgia Safety Discount Verification Form;
  • Voted to dedicate a Glock pistol to Deputy Albert Hogan, who is retiring after 11 years of service;
  • And approved an off premises consumption of malt beverage and wine license for Clinton J. Pilgrim, resident manager of the Publix supermarket on East Paulding Drive.
