It remains to be seen if Paulding County will get a full 15 minutes of fame as this year’s remake of Footloose premieres on Friday, but the community is likely to get at least a little bit of screen time after providing several filming locations for the flick.
Footloose filmed around the Atlanta area for three months last fall, with Kennesaw, Covington, Franklin and Senoia among the communities visited by filmmakers.
As we reported last year, Hiram was also visited by the crews. One location visited by filmmakers, Autohouse, saw those working on the film install a sign in front of the business. Autohouse, the sign and other parts of Hiram can be seen in this trailer for the film beginning at the 34-second mark.
Locals can be on the lookout for places they know when Footloose premieres in theaters this weekend. Movies 278 in Hiram will hold a midnight showing tonight, with tickets priced at $9.50 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and $7 for children.
Paulding’s brush with Hollywood hasn’t stopped with Footloose. Earlier this year, downtown Dallas saw parts of its Main Street closed as filmmakers worked on Joyful Noise, currently set for a Jan. 13 theatrical release (See the trailer here.) Locals also got into the action as they sought to become extras in the film when crews set up shop at the Dallas Theater.
More film opportunities could be on the way for Paulding, and the county is poised to greet them. After putting in the effort to do so, the Paulding Chamber of Commerce secured for the county the Camera Ready designation from the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office. The aim of the designation process is to offer film and television production companies easier, faster and better access to local resources and information. A Camera Ready Community is required to designate a liaison who can assist production companies on a local level.
And while filmmakers will be able to flock to Paulding due to the Camera Ready designation, those involved in production could soon be working here as well. Local leaders this summer were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony of Atlanta Film Studios Paulding County in Hiram, slated to open late this year.
