Authorities Thursday evening said one person was in critical condition following an afternoon wreck on Villa Rica Highway.

According Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright, a total of eight injuries came as a result of the head-on collision.

The crash happened some time before 5 p.m., as Paulding 911 announced via text message the closure of both lanes of travel near the 1200 block of Villa Rica Highway just after 5 p.m.; the announcement that both lanes had been opened back up came at 7:15 p.m.

GSP officials had not released any names of the injured as of Thursday night.
