Reports: Armed Hiram Man Shot by Authorities
The man, shot after a drug warrant was executed, was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital, according to published reports.

An armed 60-year-old man was shot by drug task force agents Wednesday afternoon after authorities executed a search warrant, two Atlanta media outlets reported.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the man was found “with some sort of weapon in his hand,” according to a Paulding County Sheriff’s official who was not named in the story.
CBS Atlanta reported that the warrant had been executed at 3851 Nebo Road at 3:15 p.m. by the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force.

it doesnt have to be a gun...you can even use a pencil as a weapon....A person is justified in using threats or force to the degree they reasonably believe it is necessary to stop another person's imminent use of unlawful force. A person is justified in using deadly force which may harm or kill only if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily injury to himself or herself or a third person or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony (unless it is regarding defense of habitation, which has it's own requirements below). You are not justified if you were the aggressor or you are/were/on-the-way-to committing a felony. (The state has pre-empted local cities and counties from further restricting this defense.)(16-3-21)

he wasn't told to comply they just said Sheriff and then started shooting His son was in the home heard and seen it all. he was only 18 never has done drugs in his life and now he is scarred from seeing his dad being shot to death by our police that are suppose to keep us safe.

I don't nor have I ever had problems with the police, a drug head...let me have your #.... how can you say that all cops are honest and decent when this kind of thing happens all the time everywhere.

All Cops are trained very well, as you do have some that are not as honest. but the most of them are. If you dont have a problem with Cops then whats your problem. Let it go, a man approached the Police in a aggressive way did not follow directions, and boom, I would and will do the samething. And not bat a eye. But when the GBI investigates it and finds the Police was justified then theres your answer. Climb out of your box, you would react the same way.

He was my uncle they busted in yelled sheriff and then shot him paulding county is crooked. He didnt do drugs or sell them. They didnt g ive any direction unless u knew him u dont need to say anything bad about him

The task force — which includes deputies from Harlason and Paulding counties along with officers from the Dallas, Tallapoosa and Bremen police departments — had been investigating Hammett for months, Henson said.
Henson said agents found “evidence … within the residence that would indicate drug trafficking.”
Danny Hammett served a little more than two years in prison for methamphetamine and marijuana possession in the late 1990s.

No one is saying anything bad about the man. Iam sorry it happened the way it did. Only thing Iam saying is a person needs to comply to Officers orders. And Paulding County is not crooked, they just dont make a habit of killing people but when they are justified then what must be must be read the code section on deadly force. Sorry for your loss. But I would of done the same thing.

U walk in a house strapped,bullet proof vest and high powered guns.I dont know who made this rule to walk in somebodys home strapped like that.I do think that other things like Tazers or something less powerful before pulling out deadly weapons. Officers are required to wear all that armor as they do not know what they are walking into.Taser will not stand up to a weapon if a person has one. Tasers are used for combative type persons. As long as aOfficer has a warrant signed by the judge its has given them a right to enter a home or what ever, The warant has to be served.

Cuz pepper spray does fire but powerful guns do.My thoughts on this is somebody got scared besides family after shots went off.People shouldn't treat others like murders,put guns to there heads and tell them don't breath when u really don't even know this person.I'm tired of hearing "officers"have to make it home to their family".We our still humans too.

Pepper spray is considered a weapon also and can do harm. Iam sorry but you do what it takes to make a arrest or if it comes down to deadly force then a Officers has to make his call. Always when there is a weapon use weither you shoot a dog or taser someone, a investigation is made to check out all the facts and what ever evidence they may have. And always a Officer is put on Admin. leave pending the investigation. Thats only fair to the Officer and so the Dept can continue their investigation, nd fair to all people involved.
