TSPLOST, Candidates Focus of Chamber Events Tuesday
Those seeking an office at the county level are set to speak at a breakfast in Acworth, while a forum in Dallas will focus on the statewide transportation tax vote.
Though early voting continues this week, those aiming to learn more about some of the candidates and a major tax issue on the ballot will have a chance to do so on Tuesday.
The Paulding Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday is holding two events focused on political issues. The first is the Cobb EMC Power Breakfast, which will run from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Bentwater Golf Club, 100 Golf Links Drive, Acworth. The breakfast will give attendees the chance to meet the candidates for Paulding County magistrate judge.
The magistrate judge race is the most contested county election this year, as incumbent Martin Valbuena is the only officeholder facing three opponents. Dan Collins, Brian Hardison and Fred Henderson are aiming to unseat him.
Tuesday night’s Chamber-sponsored event will focus on an issue that will impact residents statewide. The Dallas Theater will be the site of a town hall meeting on the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. A panel of experts will speak during the event, which will begin at 7 p.m.
“The Chamber makes every effort to keep our members and all the citizens informed on issues that affect the local business community,” said Kevin Kirby, director of Member Services for the Chamber. “Hosting political forums and providing other opportunities for all candidates to get their message out is one way to do this.”
Chamber officials have been no strangers to politics this year. The Chamber provided the site for last month’s Senate District 31 debate; Dallas-Hiram Patch attended the event and brought you live coverage and video highlights.
Last month’s Cobb EMC Power Breakfast focused on those running for Paulding County School Board; we brought you video from that event. And the Chamber held at the Dallas Theater a forum featuring candidates for several county and state offices, from which we brought you live coverage.
The complete list of candidates up for offices impacting Paulding (voters will not have every state race on their ballot) can be found here.
