Woman Dies on Silver Comet Trail
A woman is dead after an ATV crash on the Silver Comet Trail Friday night. Police believe alcohol was involved.
A woman is dead after she and a friend riding in an ATV crashed the motorized vehicle on the Silver Comet Trail shortly after midnight.
The woman, 52-year-old Elizabeth Z. Neesley of Austell, was ejected from her seat in the red ATV when it collided with a metal pole placed in the middle of the trail to prevent motor vehicles access on the trail. After the vehicle collided with the pole, it caught fire and burned, police said.
Randall P. Gianisiracusa, 52, of Austell, was the other occupant of the ATV. He sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, which occurred east of Floyd Road.
Gianisiracusa was treated at the scene and then released.
Cobb Police are investigating the crash and have not yet determined who was driving the vehicle when it crashed.
Officer Mike Bowman stated in a release, "Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash and charges may be pending upon completion of this investigation."
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to conduct Cobb Police at 770-499-3987.
The Silver Comet Trail runs west through Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties.

Hmm... Intoxicated, driving a motorized vehicle on a trial restricted to pedestrians and bicycles. No tears shed here; just glad they didn't kill any innocents.
Sounds like these two are good candidates for a Darwin award.

One...not supposed to be on the trail after sundown. Two...no motorized vehicles allowed on the trail anytime. Rules there for a reason.

There is no cure for stupidity. This is proof. I am sorry that these people choose to break the rules put in place to keep them safe. Many Laws are put in place to protect those who lack judgement or who choose to impair their judgement. I am glad their lack of judgement did not cause harm to others. And I hope any damange to the trail will be charged to those responsible.

Wonder if Brandy and Tammy would be defending the "victim" if this had been an illegal immigrant driving his pickup down the sidewalk in Dallas while drunk and killed by striking a power pole?
Face it, this couple brought this on themselves while potentially endangering the lives of innocents.

Sure Tammy and Brandy would defend them. Everyday for the past three years I wish the state of Georgia would have made the illegal that pulled out in front of me pay for the permanent injuries he caused me. My 100k underinsured policy plus my 100k med policy with my auto is co has been paying for all my med bills since Jan 2010. All the illegal got was a ticket for $300 tot causing the accident due to an illegat turn. I am sure he never paid the ticket. And I am sure he had a Brandy and Tammy in his corner...too.

Tammy do not worry any relatives of those involved more than likely cannot read or do not bother to read. After all the people that hit the pole people did not bother to read Dui laws or Silver Comet laws. This may be a sign that their relatives do not read either.

This was so stupid. And I’m her cousin, so you can’t imagine how much it hurts to have this be my new reality. I’m torn between thinking “Well, how lucky you’ve never done anything stupid” and “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” I tend to live somewhere in between. And I can’t say I’ve NEVER done anything stupid. I’ve just been lucky. I hate that this horrible, stupid, fatal decision is how she will be judged. People won’t know how quick she was with a smile. How she was the most loyal and giving person they’d ever know. How she was ridiculously optimistic. How fiercely she loved her son. How loyal she was to family. How she never gave up. How she didn’t judge people, but accepted them for whom and where they were in their life’s journey. How she always brought a big ray of sunshine and everything was better, happier, more joyful when she was around. Her unending kindness. I know how this story reads. It’s stupid. There is absolutely no way to look at this and think anything different. I’m usually the first one to judge someone else’s stupidity, but this has reminded me that even bright, wonderful, loving people can make extraordinarily bad decisions. And I hope the next time I read about someone like this, I first think about who that person was, who they’ve left behind, not judge them so quickly and say a prayer for them. And thank God once again for how lucky I’ve been.

Well, here we go. A collection of self righteous, (think they are) perfect, idiots, judging people they DON’T know. About a situation they DON’T know. Let’s see, why do these types of people do this? Does it make you feel better about yourselves? Superior? Just BORED and looking for something to do? NOTHING like this could EVER happen to you or your family and friends? Well let me start by saying that these two long time friends that were involved in this tragic ACCIDENT are loved and respected by many, many people. Successful. Caring. Warm. Affectionate. ALWAYS there if you need something. Give their shirt off their back. Outstanding parents. I could go on. THESE are the things that describe Betsy and Randy. So for any of you that are passing judgment on them and not just commenting to give your condolences to her friends and family that are suffering her loss, SHAME ON YOU! You better judge yourself FIRST. I don’t think any one of you or ME can say that we’ve never done something at some point in our lives that afterwards we realized wasn’t such a great decision. Alcohol or no alcohol, that is really insignificant. I can personally say that I’ve made some stupid decisions being perfectly sober. ....continued....

Doesn’t make it any better or worse. It’s life lessons. As sad as this is, that this decision resulted in the loss of a life…..well all the more reason to not pass judgment. So before you make that decision to post a comment here, really think it through. Look in your own “backyard”. Look in your own “closet”. Put yourself in their shoes and think about how your family would feel after you are gone, for people to say hurtful things about you. How would your son or daughter feel? At the end of the day, only God’s judgment really counts! So you should worry about how He see’s you judging others!...My deepest, most heartfelt condolences to Betsy’s family and friends, most importantly to her young son….also to Randy, his family and friends…this is a mournful time for all…..Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves memories, no one can steal…...All my love, Angie (an un-perfect, un-self righteous, un-superior, sometimes stupid decision making friend)

Angie you really need to grow thicker skin. This is what you should see as the norm for the internet age. People are going to comment their thoughts one way or the other good or bad just as you have. So to tell someone to look in their own back yard or to ask how would your family feel or even that "God" is watching you judge others is pretty ridiculous as you are actually judging me when you respond to my comments. God knows everyone judges others everyday. No one lives by the Bible 100% of the time or they would not break the law, drink, etc. They also would not waste their time reading and commenting on articles. Boredom and entertainment is the reason everyone does. Well, I have better things to do with my timew so enjoy commenting back if you like but I will not be reading your comments. Actually, I am setting up this mail to go straight to spam and be automatically deleted. So enjoy your day and commenting on other articles and others comments. I do hope you find something more interesting to do. Personally, commenting is entertainment when the weather is to hot to go out and play.

Okay HOLD ON. I know one of the people involved and out of respect, everyone should keep the rude comments to them selves! Didn't your momma teach you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all!
Look no one knows what all happened, but I do know that EVERYONE has done something stupid! My husband and my Dad were hurt really bad on an ATV and fought for life, but thank God they were okay, but if someone had said things like that to me. I would have personally assured to track them down and explain how painful going through this is. Think of the Family and friends!! The neighbors and the other man involved! Come on people!! You can say you have never... Been speeding in the rain, driving and texting... Come on. This is an awful tragedy, but we all have our time . God knows what he is doing and allows things like this to change lives. Come on how would you feel if this happened to someone you know. Why be so hateful? Are we not all Americas? Suppose to unite together. Where did the 9/11 bond go when people started caring about eachother just because they were human???? Just watch what you say, God Is always listening! RIP Betsy and praying for your family.
Ps) sorry for the non-auto correct. It's hard to type on this phone .
