Ready to see Warm Bodies? Then shamble over to Movies 278, 185 Metromont Road, Hiram. For more theater information and links to showtimes and pricing, click here or call 678-513-4400. Good girl meets ghoul in the latest romantic comedy called Warm Bodies. Nicholas Hoult plays a teenage zombie slacker who falls head over heels in love with Teresa Palmer, who is very much alive. Somehow the chemistry between the two works even though the flirting can be a bit awkward. You never really know what thoughts are lurking behind those blank stare, but enough about non-zombie supporting cast member …
Ready to see The Last Stand? Then head over to Movies 278, 185 Metromont Road, Hiram. For more theater information and links to showtimes and pricing, click here or call 678-513-4400. Arnold is back from being a two-term governor to playing a small-town sheriff. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a semi-retired sheriff in an sleepy southwest border town. He and his motley crew must now stop a notorious drug kingpin from escaping into Mexico in The Last Stand. The bullets fly. There is plenty of action. But the star looks a bit rusty. You quickly come to the realization that this film is undeniably …
Ready to see Gangster Squad? Then head over to Movies 278, 185 Metromont Road, Hiram. For more theater information and links to showtimes and pricing, click here or call 678-513-4400. A Chicago gangster moves out to Los Angeles, killing his way to the top, only to be met by a few honest cops in Gangster Squad. Sean Penn overacts as the main bad guy while the good guys include Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Robert Patrick, Michael Pena and Nick Nolte. The undercover spy femme fatale is Emma Stone in this wildly ridiculous, over-the-top movie. I couldn't tell if the…
A family of five begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking for some fun in the sun. Soon their holiday turns into a nightmare as a giant tsunami rises up from the ocean and sweeps them away in The Impossible. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor head up this cast that tells the true story of one family's experience during the devastating 2004 tsunami that devoured Southeast Asia. The acting, though there is very little dialogue, is amazing and the special effects, especially in the first 45 minutes, are mind-boggling. Watts is being considered for an Oscar for her performance but the kids, in…
Ready to see Django Unchained? Then saddle up and ride over to Movies 278, 185 Metromont Road, Hiram. For more theater information and links to showtimes and pricing, click here or call 678-513-4400. It's funny, offbeat, and brutal. Based in the American South during the times of slavery, Jamie Foxx straps on a six-shooter or two, some cowboys boots and hat in Django Unchained. Foxx's Django character is taken by a bounty hunter, played by Christoph Waltz. First they set out to get a few outlaws. Then they set their sites on getting Django's wife, Broomhilda, played by Kerry Washington. But …
Gerard Butler plays a divorced ex-jock who needs to be a father to his kid in the terrible romantic comedy Playing for Keeps. Jessica Biel plays his ex-wife who just happens to be getting remarried. Uma Thurman and Cahterine Zeta-Jones play a couple of horny housewives who can't resist Butler. Dennis Quaid has a small role as a creepy team soccer dad who loves throwing money around.  This may be one of the worst romantic comedies I have ever seen. Butler is a decent actor but this is not his finest hour. He stumbles though the movie as a good-looking, bumbling fool. The notion that no woman …
Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and the Sandman draft Jack Frost to be in their gang to guard against all things evil as they protect the magical state of childhood in Rise of the Guardians. Stars such as Alec Baldwin, Jude Law, Hugh Jackman, Chris Pine and Isla Fisher lend their voices to this visually stunning film perfect for the holiday season. I'll be the first one to say that it's easy to be cynical about holiday movies but this one won't let you. This certainly isn't a Judeo-Christian holiday-themed film, as you might imagine. That's what makes it a better than your …
The love triangle between Bella (Kristen Stewart), her husband Edward (Robert Pattinson), and Werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner) comes to an exciting conclusion in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part Two. Bella finally gets what she wants. She's a vampire; she's married to a vampire; now she has a half-vampire, half-human kid. That the child is from a mixed marriage doesn't sit well with some of the vampires, causing a bit of a problem. Be ready for a few surprises as the final act of the movie kicks up the stakes with a few twists and turns where anything could happen. Fans of the series will…
Daniel Craig is back in his best Bond performance to date in Skyfall. On the 50th year of the franchise and the 23rd in the series, this is one of the best Bond films yet, and I have seen all of them. The opening chase scene may be the best ever, and it sets the tone for a really good spy thriller and pure Bond fantasy. Javier Bardem plays the villain in this one. He's creepy good as the bad guy, making this movie that much better. We learn more about Bond in this film than any of the others as he tries to come to grips with his mortality and the fact that his type of spying has become …
Six major plot lines taking place over 500 years—featuring the same actors playing multiple roles—is what you get with Cloud Atlas. All of the stories are crosscut together, jumping back and forth from one another across different time periods ranging from a 19th century South Pacific sea voyage to the distant post-apocalyptic future where humanity lives on the very brink of extinction. The cast includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving and Hugh Grant. They do their best to tell the secrets of the universe and the human heart while leaving you, well, confused…
A Nevada family plays host to a very odd 6-year-old neighbor boy whose unseen mother has suddenly been hospitalized in Paranormal Activity 4. A group of young unknown actors jump into the Paranormal Activity formula without a hitch. The long stretches of green night-cam footage manage to creep you out as you try to figure out if you just saw movement in the corner. And when something eventually flies across the screen, no matter how much you try to anticipate it, you jump.  A neighborhood witches' coven plays into the proceedings, adding to the drama. In the end, as expected, all you really …
It's part Frankenstein, part Lassie, but somehow director Tim Burton makes it work in this stop-motion animation simply called Frankenweenie. It's the story of a young boy (Frankenstein) who uses all of his talents to bring back his beloved dead dog. There are a lot of references to old horror movies all wrapped up in a heartwarming boy-and-his-dog film the whole family should enjoy. Several celebrities lend their voices to this film that should appeal most to mom and dad. Fans of Boris Karloff will also enjoy this. It's strange in a Tim Burton kind of way but, in my opinion, some of his best…
Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy...they all come out in this 3D animation where monsters who have to get away from humans and the horrors of modern life head to Hotel Transylvania. Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) is the head of the house at Hotel Transylvania. And when his daughter Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez) longs for the human world, problems arise, causing quite a scare for the hotel guests. There are more than a dozen celebrity voiceover characters here which does add to the mainly slapstick animation consisting of supernatural chase scenes and jokes involving excrement, ectoplasmic …
Clint Eastwood plays an aging baseball scout who has a troubling relationship with his daughter Amy Adams in Trouble with the Curve. Eastwood's eyesight is failing so Adams decides to tag along on what could be his last scouting trip. The conflicts in the movie are many: father-daughter, daughter and her new boyfriend (played by Justin Timberlake) and a big baseball conflict pitting younger tech-savvy scouts against old-school, seasoned scouts. We have seen this movie before; it was called Moneyball. There are some dark moments, some sappy moments, and you are never quite sure if you are …
Milla Jovovich jumps back into her role as Alice. This time, she's trapped inside a compound making this a great rescue mission, as she tries to escape the land of zombies in Resident Evil: Retribution. Fans of the franchise will love the resurrection of some familiar actors from other Resident Evil movies, along with some new ones. This film feels more like a video game than previous films because Alice has to go through different levels to escape. The acting, overall, is not that great. But, really, fans of the franchise aren't there for that. It's all about the action, and there is plenty …
Bradley Cooper wants to be a professional writer but he can't because, well, he's not good enough. He comes across a transcript form shelved for years, publishes it, and tells the world it's his work when we ALL know it's not The Words. Jeremy Irons plays the writer who actually wrote the book. He confronts Cooper's character, accusing him of plagiarism, and then proceeds to tell him his back story, thus slowing down the film to a turtle's pace. Other actors in the film include small roles from Zoe Saldana, Dennis Quaid and Olivia Wilde. Despite a talented cast, the film seemed a bit jumbled …
The summer is wrapping up, and we already have a film that has Oscar implications.  Tom Hardy plays legendary bootlegger Forrest Bondurant, and Guy Pierce is hot on his trail in Lawless, a film full of violence and great acting. There is never a dull moment in this film that is narrated by Shia LaBeof, who plays Forrest's younger brother. Pierce plays a psychotic federal agent hell-bent on stopping the brothers. Jessica Chastain plays a former dancer and Hardy's love interest. She becomes his partner in crime in this film about moonshine bootlegging and its life-changing consequences.  This …
Dax Shepard plays a reformed bank robber living with his girlfriend and real-life fiancee Kristen Bell. When they go on a trip to L.A. for a job interview the fun begins in Hit and Run. The two are being followed by Tom Arnold, an official overseeing Shepard's Witness Protection Progam, and they are also being stalked by Bradley Cooper, who plays a lowlife in desperate need of some confiscated property. This car chase movie is not for the easily offended. In fact, just about everyone, on some level, should be offended. This brand of comedy is not even slapstick— it's just vicious in nature. …
Our team of action heroes get betrayed on an overseas mission, and they set out on revenge in The Expendables 2. Sure, there are dopey scenes but the action sequences are great, with Chuck Norris' character stealing every scene he is in. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a great bad guy, and his fight scenes with Sylvester Stallone are some of the best I've seen in a while. Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, seemed a bit rusty. But, really, he's never been much of an actor anyway. The action is non-stop from the opening scene to the climatic airport battle. It's fun to watch. The Expendables…
With Matt Damon's character gone we are introduced to Aaron Cross, played by Jeremy Renner. He's a member of a group of elite agents on high-risk, long-term missions in The Bourne Legacy. Within the few minutes we see just how tough this new character is as he goes in search of some pills that make him physically and mentally the ultimate soldier. But his activities threaten to expose some wrongdoing inside the U.S. government, and he butts heads with Eric Byer (Ed Norton). Cross then finds himself on the run with Rachel Weisz, who plays a doctor. After that, it's basically one chase scene …
