Hiram High supporters saw 320 students become graduates of the class of 2012 during the school’s May 25 commencement ceremony. Michelyn Russell, senior counselor at the school, spoke during the ceremony and told those in attendance that 66 members of the class were graduating with honors. Of the 320, 162 students graduated with Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education seals, 80 with fine arts seals, and 75 with a world language diploma seal. North Paulding High School held its second graduation ceremony on Friday, May 25. The ceremony began at 7 p.m. and lasted for about 90 minutes. The school saw off 341 graduates. The school's valedictorian was Natalia Del Pilar Relvelo and the salutatorian was Leo Espinosa. The ceremony was overseen by North Paulding Principal Mark Crowe. As sundown approached Friday, 245 seniors received their diplomas during Paulding County High School's 44th graduation ceremony held in Dave Hardin Stadium. Among the student speakers were Senior Class President Fred Hood, Senior Class Vice President Brian Hunt, salutatorian Valyncia Lee Allen and her twin sister, valedictorian Valeetia Elaine Allen. When the tornado ravaged her hometown of Ringgold in April, Maria Baker was heartbroken. Ringgold also is the hometown of her mother and the town where her grandparents, aunts and uncles still reside. "It devastated the whole town, but they've pulled together," she says. About 30 bowlers from nine states came to Dallas this past weekend to compete in the eighth-annual Wheelchair Bowling Tournament of the American Wheelchair Bowling Association (AWBA) Southern Open. States represented included not only Georgia but also California, Florida, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Several visitors to Hiram's Chick-fil-A today dressed as cows for free food as part of the restaurant chain's "Cow Appreciation Day," which we told you about Wednesday in our "Frugal Family" feature. The campaign gave customers a free meal if they wore a full cow costume (from "head to hoof," the restaurant says), while those wearing partial costumes earned a free entree. See some of the photos we took around midday and at dinnertime of those who weren't afraid to show their spots, udders, cowbells and other adornments. Families, faculty and friends celebrated the commencement exercise for East Paulding High School's class of 2011 Friday evening. It was a warm night, but spirits were high as 350 students said farewell to high school life. With 80 students graduating with honors, principal Scott Viness said he was proud of the graduating class. Senior Taylor Wager began the ceremony with a moving rendition National Anthem. North Paulding High School held its graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 30, at 7 pm. This year saw North Paulding's first graduating class since the school officially opened in 2007. Nicole Bigman was named valedictorian, followed by Sabrina Burns, who was named salutatorian. Presiding over the ceremony was Russ Claxton, principal of North Paulding.

The Paulding County Farm Bureau will hold its Dallas market this Friday and each following Friday from 3 to 7 p.m., while the weekly market in Hiram will continue to be held on Tuesdays through the fall.

Hundreds of Paulding County middle school students could be walking into a new facility in the fall of 2012. Officials with Paulding County Schools Wednesday morning broke ground at the site of what will become the district's ninth middle school. The East Paulding High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program hosted on Saturday the Southern Invitational Drill Meet, bringing several schools from across Georgia and even Florida. While East Paulding did not compete for trophies in their own meet, the event helped prepare them for upcoming state and national competition.
