‘No Sale’: Paulding Alcohol Vote Fails

Less than 2 percent of county voters took part in the vote that could have brought Sunday package sales to Paulding.

Proponents of Sunday package sales in Paulding likely weren’t raising their glasses Tuesday night. According to results posted at the Watson Government Complex in Dallas, 57.1 percent of voters who took part in the alcohol referendum said no to Sunday sales. The no votes took it with 665 ballots to 499 in favor of Sunday sales. According to the posted results, 1,167 ballots were cast out of the county’s 79,672 registered voters—a turnout of just 1.46 percent. Deidre Holden, supervisor of the Paulding County Elections office, told Dallas-Hiram Patch the final vote totals were 760 for Sunday sales to 942 against— a larger vote count but still resulting in defeat for the measure. Early voting for the March 19 Special Election, allowing Sunday Sales in Paulding County, began on Feb. 25 and will continue until March 15.

Early voting for the March 19 special election, allowing for Sunday sales of alcohol in Paulding County, began on Feb. 25 and will continue until March 15. The only location for early voting is in the county's elections office. The elections office is located on the first floor of the Watson Government Complex, 240 Constitution Blvd. in Dallas. Voting is held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the March 19 special election, all precincts in Paulding County will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. For more information on the special election, call election officials at 770-443-7503 or email elections@paulding.gov. Dugan Dominates in District 30 Race

The Carrollton Republican in his third election in three months defeated Libertarian James Camp to earn the state senate seat.

Mike Dugan, a 20-year Army veteran and local building contractor from Carrollton, will soon be able to add state senator to his résumé. With all precincts reporting, Dugan posted a strong victory against Libertarian James Camp in a special election to determine the next state senator for District 30. Voters in parts of three counties—Paulding, Douglas and Carroll—were able to cast ballots. In Paulding, Dugan took 80.3 percent of the vote by earning 233 votes to Camp’s 57; voters from all four Paulding precincts favored the Republican candidate. The county saw 291 ballots cast out of 24,586 registered voters— a turnout of 1.18 percent. Douglas also was decidedly in Dugan’s corner. Results from the Secretary of State’s office showed that …

JB, Dugan earned 3,299 votes to Camp’s 467 in the three counties that voted, or 87.6 percent of overall vote. Paulding's 291 ballots were a portion of that.   more ›

Early voting in the State Senate District 30 Race between Libertarian candidate James Camp and Republican candidate Mike Dugan concludes today at 5 p.m. Voters will have one more opportunity to cast ballots—Tuesday’s election day.

Voters in a portion of Paulding County have one last chance today to cast their ballots early in a special election that will determine their next state senator. Early voting for residents of State Senate District 30 began Wednesday. Those who have yet to cast their ballots early can visit today the Paulding County Elections Office in Dallas from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the ballot are Libertarian James Camp and Republican Mike Dugan, the latter of whom won a Dec. 4 runoff to become the GOP candidate. Less then 3 percent of eligible voters in Paulding cast ballots in last week’s runoff election to select the Republican nominee for the open state senate seat. Voters will return to the polls early next year to choose their district’s next senator.

A new year will have barely started when residents of Senate District 30 get their first opportunity to head to the polls to help pick their next state senator.
