Food Scores: Fuji Sushi Earns 83

See how 11 local establishments fared in the food scores for May 12-18.

The following food and health scores were reported by Paulding County Environmental Health within the past few days. Environmental Health’s goal in rating establishments is to give the public the information needed to protect themselves from risk factors linked to illness or injury. Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from a best possible score of 100. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take more points. Two Million Reasons To Celebrate

A Paulding County couple claimed a $2 million prize won from a Powerball drawing last week.

Days after their numbers came up, Kenneth and Mary Davis of Dallas are $2 million richer. According to a news release Wednesday, the two held the ticket that matched the first five numbers from the May 9 Powerball drawing. For matching the numbers 1-7-11-55-56, they won a $2 million prize. The Powerball in that drawing was 1, but the Davis’ ticket did not match that number drawn. The couple on their ticket selected the PowerPlay option for an additional $1, increasing their prize amount by $1 million. The Davis’ claimed their prize Wednesday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta. Crossroads Grocery, 8774 Dallas Acworth Highway in Dallas, sold the winning ticket. Gingrey: I'll 'Stand Strong for Christian, Conservative, Moral Values'

The representative of Georgia’s 11th district discussed the economy, gay marriage, Obamacare and this year’s presidential race Monday night.

On the heels of President Barack Obama's stated support of gay marriage, Congressman Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, addressed the issue during a town-hall meeting Monday night at Mount Paran Christian School in Kennesaw. “I don’t like the secularism that’s occurring in this country one bit and I think it is incumbent upon those of us [that] stand strong, to stand very strong, in regard to that and say ‘look, Billy and I believe that marriage is a sacrament,’” Gingrey said. “I’m not ashamed to say that, and I won’t be ashamed to say that, and I hope our nominee on my side of the aisle will not back away from saying that and stand strongly.”  Gingrey, who is up for reelection this fall, said he will continue to “stand strong for Christian, …

Several of our headlines last week focused on events that took place on Saturday. We told you early in the week about a walkathon aimed at helping two locals who have been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. On Friday, we brought you video interviews of the two. Heavy Vehicles Asked To Detour Starting Monday

Buses and heavy trucks should avoid Dallas-Acworth Highway at Picketts Mill Creek starting Monday.

The Paulding County Department of Transportation is asking those who drive heavy trucks or buses to avoid a portion on Dallas-Acworth Highway starting Monday. According to a public advisory, the stretch of roadway these drivers should steer clear of is the portion over Picketts Mill Creek—about 1 mile north of Mt. Tabor Church Road. These drivers are being asked to detour while crews perform substructure work on the bridge. Buses, heavy trucks and any vehicle 10 tons or heavier should take Dallas-Acworth Highway to East Paulding Drive to State Route 92 (Hiram-Acworth Highway) to Dallas-Acworth Highway and reverse. Emergency responders, regardless of weight, may cross the bridge but should use caution for workers and equipment near and …
