Celebrate Thanksgiving on a Cruise Ship

Here are some steals for cruises to the Caribbean during Thanksgiving week by local travel expert Precious White.

Each year, an entire day is dedicated to being thankful for all that we have as well as all life has to offer. But while there are many reasons to stay home during Thanksgiving and stuff ourselves into a self-induced food coma, there are many more reasons to do the same while on a cruise vacation. For starters, this is the time of year cruise lines start luring passengers with special holiday activities, scrumptious menus and bargains for any unsold cabins.

Disney Cruise Line will host Thanksgiving Day feasts, Mickey and pals in holiday-themed costumes, NFL games on giant outdoor movie screens and turkey towel animals in cabins. And let's be honest. Who doesn't love a good towel decoration?

Plus, as of Nov. 10, the ships will be in Christmas mode too, with special decor and activities.

Princess Cruises will feature family-friendly, turkey craft-creation contests, turkey-calling contests, sports games including flag football, Turkey Trot walks and special "giving thanks" trees. Big ship lines Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Norwegian and Celebrity all have deals.

Best of all, when you celebrate Thanksgiving on a cruise ship, you can leave the cooking, cleaning and decorating to someone elseβ€”and enjoy more quality time together with loved ones as you sail from one spectacular port to the next.

If you're not sold on separating from your after-Thanksgiving-meal couch just yet, put on your visionary glasses and join me while I take you on a guided imagery journey to wet your cruise appetite.

First, go get your favorite pair of sunglasses. Next, wherever you are, lie back and relax all your muscles from head to toe. Now imagine yourself lying in the sun on a lounge chair, with a full belly, and nothing but time on your hands. And if those visionary glasses aren't enough, now imagine your real ones on a turkey animal towel.

See you at sea!
