1. Publix Deals

Deal: Founded by Stephanie Nelson in Atlanta and favored by consumer advocate Clark Howard as his favorite coupon site, CouponMom.com shows weekly grocery deals by state. For Georgia, stores included are Bi-Lo, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Ingles, Kroger, Publix and Winn Dixie.

Using Publix as an example for this week, coupons are doubled up to 50 cents. CouponMom.com updates the Publix list every Thursday when Publix changes its prices.

Free items at Publix this week include:

• Air Wick Freshmatic Starter Kit on sale for $2.99 plus use a $3 Publix coupon from 03-27 Publix newspaper insert and 03-20 SmartSource coupon for a total coupon value of $4, so you get back $1.01.

• French's Spicy Brown Mustard, 12 oz. (deal ends April 15) on sale for $1 plus use a 50-cent coupon from 01-23 SmartSource newspaper insert that is doubled.

• Mahatma Valencia Short Grain Rice, 14 oz. (unadvertised deal ends April 30) on sale for 99 cents plus use 50-cent coupon from 01-23 Red Plum newspaper insert that is doubled.

• Super Poligrip Free, .75 oz on sale for $2 plus use $2 coupon from 03-27 Red Plum newspaper insert.

Good through: Thursday.

2. Kroger Specials

Deal: SouthernSavers.com is another coupon site, showcasing daily specials from a variety of sources. This week Kroger has an abundance of deals good through Saturday, especially when using the following combination:

• Item on sale.

• Downloaded ecoupons to your Kroger card from Cellfire, Procter & Gamble, Kroger and Shortcuts.

• SmartSource and Red Plum coupons from magazine and newspaper inserts that also are doubled up to 50 cents.

• Kroger paper coupons, but these "catalina" coupons are not doubled.

3. Steak 'n Shake AYCE Pancakes

Deal: All-you-can-eat pancakes are offered for $3.99 from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the  at 4835 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram. Other deals include half price on all shakes and drinks Monday through Friday from 2 to 4 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.

4. Mellow Mushroom Trivia Night Special

Deal: Any specialty pizza is discounted by $2.50 on Tuesday nights at Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers, 5154 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway, Suite 117, Hiram. A trivia contest also is held every Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 p.m. to around 8.

Hours: Sundays through Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

5. Elrod Garden Center in Dallas and Hiram 

Deal: In addition to deals on plants and landscaping, Elrod Garden Center at 260 Merchants Drive in Dallas offers a wealth of free information on its website. In business since 1988, Elrod also has a growing facility at 7498 Nebo Road in Hiram.
