Frugal Family: Movie Specials Arrive for Summer in Paulding

Free movies and other discounts can be found at the Dallas Theater, Taylor Farm Park and Movies 278.

We're all watching our family budgets these days. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us stretch our dollars.

This column will be dedicated to giving you five great local deals each week that will help your family’s bottom line. Since we do the scouting for you, you can save time as well as money.

This week, Frugal Family reporter Carolyn Cunningham scoured our local sources to come up with several specials at Movies 278 in Hiram, the Dallas Theater and Taylor Farm Park—so many, in fact, that they are presented as six, instead of the usual five, money-saving deals:

1. Movie Ticket Stub Discounts

Deal: An ongoing special at in Hiram is that each movie ticket is good for discounts at local businesses:

Cangeloni's Pizza: Free small garlic squares with ticket stub

Free chicken sandwich with ticket stub and a medium Dr. Pepper

$3 off a haircut with ticket stub

OFH Clothing: 20 percent off your entire purchase with ticket stub

Free pizza slice with ticket stub within 10 days of purchase

Get In & Out Barbers: $3 off a haircut with ticket stub

Buy 1 game, get 1 free with ticket stub

Off the Deep End (pool supply): 10 percent off with ticket stub

$3 off lipstick purchase and a free facial

1 free taco with purchase of a combo and 2 drinks

2. 3D Price Drops

Deal: Beginning Friday, Movies 278 will reduce the extra charge for 3D movies from $3 to $1 before 6 p.m. and to $2 after 6 p.m. as an ongoing special, said Laura Rampley, assistant manager.

 

3. $5 Movies Every Day

Deal: A new summer special at Movies 278 is that tickets are $5 before 3 p.m. every day. During the school year, the $5 ticket deal is good only on Tuesdays before 3 p.m.

 

4. Free Family Fun Festival

Deal: Movies 278 begins its annual Family Fun Festival on Tuesday with free movies through Aug. 11. Also, if you bring an unexpired can of food or a school supply costing at least 50 cents, you receive free popcorn (only one per person). There also are $1 specials for popcorn and drinks—but only on these special Tuesdays. All movies are rated G or PG:

  • Tuesday and June 2 ~ Ramona (G) and Nanny McPhee Returns (PG)
  • June 7 and 9 ~ How to Train Your Dragon (PG)
  • June 14 and 16 ~ Megamind (PG)
  • June 21 and 23 ~ Narnia: Dawn Treader (PG)
  • June 28 and 30 ~ Diary of a Wimpy Kid (PG)
  • July 5 and 7 ~ Despicable Me (PG)
  • July 12 and 14 ~ Marmaduke (PG)
  • July 19 and 21 ~ Alpha & Omega (PG)
  • July 26 & 28 ~ Rango (PG)
  • Aug. 2 and 4 ~ Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 (PG)
  • Aug. 9 and 11 ~ Hop (PG) 

Times: 10 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays.

5. Free Cartoons on Tuesdays

Deal: Free Cartoon Tuesdays begin June 7 and continue through Aug. 9 at the . All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Times: Noon to 2 p.m.

Location: 208 Main St., Dallas.

 

6. Free Movie at Taylor Farm Park

Deal: Beginning at sundown on June 11, Despicable Me (PG) will be shown for free at the Pole Barn of Taylor Farm Park. Those attending should bring a blanket or lawn seating and a picnic supper or snacks. All ages are welcome, and no alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park. This annual program is presented by the Paulding County Parks and Recreation Department.

Location: 1380 Pine Valley Road, near the fire station between Ga. 92 and Brownsville Road.
