Great Escape: Garden Tours and Talks, Plant Sales Offered Nearby
Over the next few days, garden and gardening escapes can be found in nearby Douglas and Cobb counties.
Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take tap on Wednesday evening. Douglas County Master Gardeners Plant Sale

Many unusual and hard-to-find plants will be sold Saturday in Douglas County. Among them will be Sundrops, Touch-Me-Nots, Giant Swamp Sunflower and Solomon’s Seal.
The Master Gardeners have an abundance of Hostas and Hellebores - also Crinum Lilies, Iris, Daylilies, Chinese Sacred Lilies and Canna Lilies. They also will be selling Angel Trumpet, Mock Orange, Hydrangea, Rose of Sharon, Sedum, Pachysandra, Yarrow, Fennel, Rudbeckia, Obedient Plant and many more. Starting vegetables from seed, they have a large amount of tomatoes, peppers and herbs for sale as well - along with houseplants and annuals. Proceeds will benefit projects of the Douglas County Master Gardeners.

Hours: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday.
Location: Douglas County Master Gardeners Greenhouse next to the Woodie Fite Senior Center, 8750 Dorris Road (and next to the Courthouse).
Cobb County Master Gardeners Plant Sale and Tour
Stroll through the private greenery of Cobb County Master Gardeners, as well as other local gardens, on Saturday. "Through the Garden Gate 2011" also will include a garden fair and plant sale with hundreds of plants grown by Master Gardeners.
All of the featured gardens are off Dallas Highway or South Cobb Drive in Powder Springs, Marietta and Smyrna. Master Gardeners will be available at each location to answer questions. Advance tickets are $10 per person or $15 on the day of the tour at any of the tour gardens or at the plant sale location at the Cobb County Water System Facility, 660 South Cobb Drive, Marietta. The event will be held rain or shine.
Tickets may be purchased through the Cobb Extension Office, 678 South Cobb Drive, Suite 200, Marietta. Payment must be made by check or cash (exact change only). Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the 14 project gardens supported by the master gardening volunteer organization. A downloadable ticket order form is available here. All tickets will include a map and garden tour locations.

Gardening Guru Walter Reeves
Heard every Saturday morning on WSB750 AM and 95.5FM, gardening expert Walter Reeves will share his knowledge at this open event on Tuesday in Douglasville. Cost is $10 to hear Reeves but $25 for a garden luncheon plus Reeves' speech. This event is hosted by the Ama Kanasta Garden Club.
Hour: 11 a.m., Tuesday.
