Master Gardeners to Hold Plant Sale on April 27

The annual Paulding County Master Gardeners Plant Sale will be held Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

by Donna Phillips

It’ s that time again! Arrival of spring and time to search out good plants at a good price. Each year the Paulding County Master Gardeners have a spring plant sale to give the public an opportunity to collect plants at excellent prices, receive education about those plants and help us fund the many projects in which our Master Gardeners are involved. This is our only fund raiser of the year so we try to serve and share value, education and opportunity with the residents of Paulding County.

We started our preparations last fall propagating plants by division, rooting and seeding. We are offering more native trees this year and have dogwoods, persimmons, wild plum, redbuds, red maples and red cedars. Our plants include, vegetables, annual, perennials, vines-ground covers, daylilies, iris, crinium, shrubs, trees, hosta, ferns and houseplants.

We sponsor and participate in programs throughout the county in our schools, libraries, 4-H, provide scholarship opportunities to graduating high school students, the “Ask A Master Gardener” and this year we are a proud sponsor of “ Paulding in Blooming.”

We have a few vendors this year selling palms, agave, figs, blueberries and more. Stacey Kirby, The Garden Artist will be selling unique container plantings, fairy gardens and creative design ideas. 4-H will sell hotdogs and drinks if you get hungry. Elrod’s Nursery will be selling Paulding Is Blooming t-shirts so that you have any opportunity to support the beautification of our county. We continue to look for vendors with unusual plants, garden tools, soil, crafts, equipment or unique items pertaining to gardening. If you know of someone please let me know at dap39@bellsouth.net.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be fun and you will have an opportunity to ask questions about soil testing, the plants you are purchasing, reading your soil test results and anything thing else garden related. While you are here, visit our vegetable demonstration garden, butterfly garden herb garden and perennial garden.

Remember the first hour of our monthly meeting (the fourth Thursday of each month) is open to the public with educational programs from 10 to 11 a.m. Come join us! April 16 will be an Earth Day program, May will be composting, June will be fairy gardening and there will be more to come. Hope to see you on April 27 and bring a friend!
