Registration Under Way for Annual Cops for Kids Golf Tournament

Need an excuse to play golf while helping a local cause? Then sign up for the 11th-annual Cops for Kids Golf Tournament on April 20 at in Hiram.

All proceeds from this tournament will benefit the fund, which provides Christmas and other needs throughout the year for less fortunate children in Paulding County. Each December, local sheriff’s deputies take these children with a designated amount of money and allow them to do their Christmas shopping. For the 2010 shopping day, approximately 250 local children were allowed to go shopping with the funds given through donations.

Registration is now open for teams and individuals interested in a spot for the tournament. A foursome can register at the cost of $300. Individual golfers can register for $75. Prizes will be given for first-, second- and third-place teams and also for the “Longest Drive” and “Closest to the Pin.” Four-person Fort Lauderdale mulligans are available for purchase for $5 with a limit of four per player. Lunch for the tournament will be provided by Chick-fil-A of Hiram.

So what if you aren’t a golfer? There are still ways to donate! There are several levels of sponsorships available with levels at $5,000 for platinum, $2,500 gold and $500 for the "Closest to the Pin" and "Longest Drive" awards. The sheriff’s office is also seeking donations for door prizes and goody bags. All donations are tax deductible. Last year, more than $22,000 was raised through the golf tournament alone.

Spots fill up quickly for this tournament, so make sure you get your team registered as soon as possible. There is a limit of 35 teams.
