Spots Still Open for Local Summer Day Camp Programs

Are your children looking for a fun-filled summer? Check out what area summer day camps have to offer.

With the summer months here and children out of school, summer day camp programs can provide a safe alternative of care for your children, all while giving them a fun-filled summer experience.

The t started its summer day camp program on June 6 and will run its camps for a six-week period, which will include fun activities, field trips and visitors. Each week will host a different theme and some of the trips included during the sessions are visits to the local pool and fire stations, the , and even the .

According to Superintendent of Programs Vickie Williams, the camp is not like school, but is structured in a safe way for children to learn, all while having fun.

Before any children arrived for the start of camp, the staff and counselors participated in a three-day training program. Some of the training topics included a class presented by the , covering awareness while supervising children in public areas, recognizing heat-related distress, guidelines in providing a positive image and role-modeling for children, and the proper care for insect bites and hydration presented by a representative from the . The staff was also certified in first aid and CPR by the American Red Cross.

“We strive for quality and making sure the staff-to-camper ratio is in check,” Williams said. “The big thing about our camp is that the staff working with the children is provided with three days of training prior to camp and there is a wide range of staff ages and experiences which allow the camp staff and campers to mesh well together.”

There are several camp options throughout the county, not only with the Paulding County Parks and Recreation program, but also with the cities of and as well.
