Atami Steak & Sushi Offers Japanese Cuisine

Near the Paulding/Cobb county line, a quaint lunch spot awaits.

Skeptical about Asian cuisine, I was timid about trying a new restaurant. Nevertheless, lunch at Atami Steak & Sushi was a pleasant surprise. Entering the quiet, casual dining room, the restaurant was neat, clean and comfortable. This particular weekday for lunch, there was no wait and we were immediately seated at one of the six hibachi grills. Booths, tables and a small bar had available seating as well. Walls painted a serine sunset orange with black furniture enhance the Asian décor.

The service staff was friendly and prompt with beverages. Beer and wine are available, as well as the usual soft drinks. Since we chose a hibachi table, the preparation of our food was delayed a bit to add other guests, which is reasonable. With the arrival of our Hibachi Teppanyaki chef, the diners at our table requested filet mignon, steak and shrimp combo and chicken. Each entrée came with a choice of salad or soup, steamed rice or fried rice. Most chose fried rice, which was delicious! Above average was the shrimp sauce! Creamy and not too sweet, the sauce was a great accompaniment to everything. My filet mignon was cooked to my liking. My fellow diners all enjoyed their meal.

The chef’s performance was brief. I am not sure if this is typical at lunchtime in most Japanese restaurants? Dinner at Hibachi establishments that I have visited, the chef usually puts on a much more elaborate show. Today’s presentation was very basic and brief. No comedic antics, no jokes; as if he was not there to entertain us, he was there to cook our lunch. I cannot fault the restaurant for this, as I have no experience to compare it. Lunch entrees at the Hibachi grill range $6.95 - $13.95. Portions were reasonable; therefore, I was comfortable with the bill.

Dinner prices at the Hibachi are $14.95 - $20.95. A sushi bar, served with salad and Miso soup costs $14.95 - $17.95. Parties of two or three can cost up to $69.95. Hand rolled Maki Sushi, Sashimi, Tempura and Bento boxes are also on the menu; which is large and includes many varieties of meat, seafood and vegetables.

Atami does not deliver; however, take-out can be ordered over the phone. Their menu is available online. Comfort, friendliness and good food has put to ease my skepticism of Japanese cuisine. Although I was unable to talk with the chef or manager due to a language issue, I will revisit the restaurant for a dinner meal.
