Kake Kompani Aims to Serve Local Bakers

Novice and professionals likely would enjoy shopping at this local confection supply store.

Professional bakers and hobbyists alike now have a retailer in Paulding County that can supply an incredible array of tools, equipment and supplies.

Kake Kompani opened its doors Oct. 1, 2010, to provide local cake decorating enthusiasts quality supplies and, for the novice, an experienced instructor to pass along the limitless possibilities of edible embellishments. Owner Shekena Talley acquired a business management degree and decided to turn her passion into a business. While an instructor for Michael’s Craft Store, Talley explains, “I enjoyed teaching the craft but was disappointed with not being able to find good quality supplies in the area.” She realized if she had difficulty locating supplies, probably other Paulding County bakers were having the same struggle.

With the support of her entire family, Talley balances a full-time job, raising three sons with her husband and establishing Kake Kompani. Since cake decorating has been a hobby of hers for over five years, her enthusiasm and passion radiates as she tours her facility with new customers. Her contagious excitement shines as an instructor.

“Teaching others to decorate cakes is something I really enjoy and I find it very self-fulfilling,” she says.

Varieties of cake decorating classes are offered and are designed to be completed in one day, instead of weeks. Registration for upcoming classes can easily be completed and purchased online. Also available are cake pan rentals. If you do not want to purchase a specialty pan for just one occasion, renting a pan is an option and can be reserved online.

At the store, Kake Kompani carries a wide arrange of confection trimmings, such as edible pearls, disco dust, icings, molds, color enhancements, cake boxes and much more. Hobbyists and professionals enjoy perusing the shelves and getting inspired. Sponsoring The West Georgia Cake Club, Talley hopes to gather enthusiasts to share ideas and techniques, as to promote camaraderie and inspiration. Meetings are on Sundays from 5 to 6 p.m. at the retail store.

Kake Kompani is a warehouse-style facility full of supplies and decorating tools that most home bakers would not have access. During instructional classes, individuals can use the tools to create confection ideas and bake that perfect birthday cake. Baking does not have to be overwhelming. With the right tools and instruction, Talley and her staff can make your cake decorating, cupcake creation or candy-making process easy and enjoyable while not leaving Paulding County.
