Lunch at The Hiram Coffee House

Sandwiches, pastries, coffee and comfort are available at this local eatery.

Wanting a quick, local lunch, the Hiram Coffee House seemed the logical choice. Conveniently located in downtown Hiram, they offer salads, cold sandwiches or grilled sandwiches. Also offered is a soup of the day and a few breakfast items. Of course, being a coffee house, various lattes, cappuccinos and gourmet teas are available. Iced beverages, including flavored smoothies are on the menu. Everyone should be able to find something appealing on the menu.

Greeted immediately upon entering, the staff is friendly and welcoming. Although a small dining area—only eight tables are available—patrons looking for a quick lunch do not occupy tables for very long, and on this busy Tuesday, a wait was not necessary. Upon being seated, my requested beverage was immediately served. With a quaint but comfortable environment, the restaurant is pleasantly decorated with art and craft pieces. A sofa and two chairs in a sitting area make for a convenient spot for Internet surfers taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi.

The chicken Panini with chips was served hot from the kitchen. Although the chicken was excessively overcooked to the point of too tough to chew, the sandwich was of a good portion size. Accompanied by a creamy pesto, the bread was tender and delicious. The Mocha Bianca is a hot coffee, with white chocolate and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream. Rich, creamy and soothing, the coffee was good till the bottom revealed coffee grounds. As a treat at home, the Cookies and Cream Cake tasted homemade with a rich creamy frosting, graced on top with whole and sliced Oreo cookies. A slice of this delicious baked good was enough to feed two people.

Being in business for over six years, in the antique district of Hiram, owner Helena Williams obviously must be doing something right. Open Monday and Saturday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., with catering and private parties available; The Hiram Coffee House was an overall pleasant experience. Regretfully, I would not order the chicken Panini again; however, I would visit for a warm cup of java and a slice of a delicious dessert.
