Stoney River Serves Stunning Signature Steaks

Succulent steaks are their specialty and make the Atlanta restaurant well worth a visit.

Always looking for a good steak, this cuisine critique takes us to an exclusive, upscale steak house, Stoney River Legendary Steaks. Although they have locations in six cities throughout the country, their motto is "a collection, not a chain." From the moment you enter the restaurant, patrons realize this is not just an evening out for dinner; it is an elegant sanctuary.

Location menus can vary from city to city; however, all locations offer pasta, fish, soups, salads, and of course, signature steaks. The appetizer list is very diverse with something for everyone. Delicate desserts paired with great espresso are the crown jewel to a lavish-tasting meal. Full bar and a vast wine list are offered. Reservations are recommended.

Already a repeat customer at Stoney River of Atlanta, I have enjoyed their jumbo, luscious shrimp cocktail, served with a tangy, yet delicious cocktail sauce. However, the whiskey shrimp on country toast is a grand-prize winner in my book. Large shrimp, cooked on a crispy baguette toast, covered with a creamy Jack Daniel's mustard sauce is absolutely one of the best appetizers I've had in my life.

Steaks include the 7 oz. or 10 oz. coffee-cured filet. Espresso is the secret ingredient for this tender, succulent steak. Perfectly cooked to each patrons' choice, this steak is best if medium, not allowing the rub to be overcooked. Served with au gratin potatoes and sautéed green beans, this is truly an awarding winning dish. Accompanied by my husband, he thoroughly enjoyed the 14 oz. New York strip; again, cooked to his specific desire and with one side item. Other steak selections include a prime rib, 12 oz. rib eye, a 22 oz. "cowboy cut" rib eye and a 12 oz. filet. Although other entrees are offered, Stoney River is best known for their Midwestern fresh, center-cut portion steaks, and that is what I recommend.

With a staff eager to please and friendly, your dining experience is sure to feel first class. Without a reservation, expect a wait. Although the restaurant is moderate in size, with such a great reputation, it is a popular place for couples. The ambience is comfortable, without being snobby. With a large Aspen-like stone fireplace in the center of the restaurant, couples will feel as if they are in a luxurious vacation spot instead of an Atlanta steakhouse. Dark mood lighting for candlelit dinners invites couples to relax and enjoy a pleasurable dinning experience. Although formal attire is not required, collared shirts and slacks are recommended.

Desserts offered include a Cappuccino Crème Brule and a Stoney River chocolate fudge cake, among others. You may feel as if a dessert will send your shirt buttons flying across the room, but the Crème Brule is perfect for a couple to share a few bites and is an essential complement to the upscale meal you have enjoyed.

Stoney River Legendary Steaks is considered an upscale restaurant and prices are moderate for this type of restaurant. The money is well spent if you appreciate good food, comfortable atmosphere and a memorable dinning treasure … you will not mind the final check.
