4-H Robotics Team Using Odd Building Materials

The new Junk Drawer Robotics Team is the latest 4-H Club opportunity sponsored by the Paulding County Extension Office.

The Robotics Team is using items found around the home in its creations.

“4-H is not just pigs and chickens anymore,” says Mary Carol Sheffield, County Extension Coordinator and Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent for the University of Georgia’s Extension Office in Paulding.

“Not many kids live on farms and have traditional agricultural experience, so 4-H is involved in a broad range of topics, including agriculture, but not limited to it. And we rely on a lot of skilled volunteers to make these clubs happen. ”

The 4-H Club Poultry Judging Team has been at work since January, and the three shooting sports teams – Archery, BB Gun, and Shotgun Teams – are starting this year’s training. The 4-H Horse & Pony Club meets year-round.

Every fifth-grade classroom in Paulding has a 4-H Club, a total of 84, that meets monthly, and every middle school has a 4-H Club as well.

A large number of Paulding middle- schoolers recently attended the 4-H Junior Conference at Rock Eagle, says Sheffield.

About 35 high-school 4-H members form a Senior 4-H Club competed March 2-3 in the Junior/Senior District Project Achievement public speaking contest at Rock Eagle.

A Cotton Boll Consumer Judging Team and Forestry Judging Team meet in the summer and fall, and 4-H’ers are involved in a variety of summer activities and camps.
