News Nearby: Funeral for Slain Officer; Cherokee School on Alert

The funeral for a first-year Clayton County Police officer killed in the line of duty this week will take place Friday at East Cobb's Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.

Sean Callahan, 24, who joined the force only in August, died early Tuesday after being shot twice in the head while responding to a domestic dispute at a motel in Stockbridge on Monday afternoon.

Callahan was a graduate of Lassiter High School in Northeast Cobb.

The man who killed him, a parolee from Henry County, was shot and killed by police during the incident.

A bow hunter on property near Mountain Road Elementary School in Cherokee County had the school's administrative team activating a "Code Red" alert early Wednesday morning. Buses were diverted to an area high school, locking down the elementary school and bringing police to the scene.

School officials determined the hunter was no threat to students or school staff, and by 7:30 a.m. all buses had dropped the remaining students off at the Mountain Road school.

Parents received a letter sent home with students informing them of the situation.

A crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 75 claimed three lives and shut down the Cartersville roadway for hours Wednesday morning.

Two people in the first truck were killed and the driver of the second also was fatally injured. Their names have not been released.

Eric M. Martin, 42, of Roswell, former head of investor relations for Carter’s, Inc., the major children’s clothing company, pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to commit securities fraud and wire fraud in connection with a multi-year, multi-state insider trading conspiracy primarily involving Carter’s stock. 

Martin was convicted of tipping a former Wall Street analyst about Carter’s quarterly and annual financial results and other material, non-public information in advance of the public announcement of the information during Martin’s employment with Carter’s between 2005 and 2009.
