Warm Temps To Ring in New Year

There may still be isolated snow patches here and there, but New Year's Eve and New Year's Day will be warm.

Oh, the changes a week can bring.

Last Friday and Saturday, we were all waiting for the white stuff's arrival. Open a present, run look out the window.

Today and tomorrow will be down right balmy mixed with plenty of wet stuff β€” just not the frozen kind.

Happy soggy New Year.

The high today in and around Atlanta will be about 60 degrees, said Robert Garcia, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Showers will begin later this evening so partygoers better bring an umbrella. The low tonight will be in the upper 40s.

The new year will bring temperatures in the 60s Saturday with lows in the upper 40s or low 50s. The morning hours β€” which many will miss anyway β€” will bring showers and in the afternoon there is a chance of thunderstorms.

And that's not a slim chance but an 80 percent chance. Watching football sounds like a good plan.

Now the new year will be warm, but no need to break out the confetti for a record high. In Atlanta, the record for New Year's Eve is 73 degrees set back in 1984. And for New Year's Day the record sits at 75 degrees set in 1952.

Now that's what I call a Florida New Years.
