Week in Review: Hurricane and Earthquake, Football and Bands

From crime news to sports to reports of natural disasters, we at Patch brought a little bit of everything to you in the past week.

Many in Paulding were likely focused this past week on the start of the high school football season, and so were we here at Dallas-Hiram Patch. We previewed the matchups, brought you a photo gallery from one of the season openers, and even had some more sports coverage beyond that, but sports were far from the only thing we brought you during the week. Here are the highlights of the week that was:

We’ll start off with sports since it’s already on our minds. We brought you photo galleries of against Douglas County, while earlier today we brought you snapshots of South Paulding’s softball team as they faced and in tournament action this weekend.

At the college level, Chattahoochee Technical College’s football team , but not without the help of some local talent.

One of the major features we brought you during the week were actually five features—video previews of what our high school bands had in store for us this season. So if you haven’t seen our features on the bands of , , , or high schools, now’s your chance.

Moving away from high school sports and related activities for the moment, early in the week we learned that a Dallas man in Bartow County that claimed the life of a Smyrna man.

Later in the week, a 22-month-old Powder Springs boy unresponsive and not breathing .

We saw several government entities meet during the week. The Paulding County Board of Commissioners at their meeting Tuesday night, while their morning session saw . Hiram city councilmen during their Tuesday night meeting, while the Paulding County School Board involving property at one of its schools during its Tuesday morning gathering.

In other school-related news, Georgia Highlands College from WellStar Health Systems to go to its nursing programs.

Perhaps the biggest news items locals had on their minds this past week were the ones that happened outside of Paulding County, Georgia. Though a 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit in Virginia on Tuesday, the quake .

Between earthquakes and a hurricane, memories of the tornadoes from earlier this year might not have been front and center with people last week. But those affected by tornadoes were front and center in some minds’ last weekend during a bowling benefit held to raise funds by those affected by the tornado in Ringgold. We brought you on Tuesday .
