Hiram Tree Lighting Set for Dec. 6

Tis the season for joining together and celebrating the holiday season and all the accompanying traditions. And Hiram is pleased to continue its traditional Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and events in its historic downtown.

Scheduled for Dec. 6, Hiram’s Christmas Tree lighting will feature a special processional incorporating local veterans and South 107’s Moby as master of ceremonies in the event’s eighth year. This perennially popular event includes local entertainers on stage, a live Nativity scene, horse-and-buggy rides, interactive children’s play area, Christmas cartoons playing on a movie screen, and, reportedly, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Don’t worry about dinner or feeding the kids before you come because nearby restaurants and a variety of vendors will sell food to the crowd throughout the downtown area. All activities will be concentrated on Beatty Street, Church Street, and Main Street, and road closures and off-site parking with shuttle service will protect safety. Church Street will be closed from the morning of Dec. 5 until the event is over, and Beatty Street and Main Street will be closed from noon to 10 p.m. Dec. 6.

Shuttle buses will provide safe transportation to and from special parking lots at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Seaboard Street, Hiram Elementary School on Sea-board Avenue, and a large parking lot off Main Street that can be reached by entering the downtown area from Main Street and Highway 92.
