GreyStone received the prestigious Seven Seals Award recently for the cooperative’s meritorious leadership and initiative in support of the men and women who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve.
Brig. Gen. Thomas L. McCullough (ret.) presented the award on behalf of the Georgia Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The ESGR promotes a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their employees.
Last June, GreyStone received the Patriot Award after sponsoring a deployment ceremony for a unit of the Army National Guard. Members of the Family Readiness Group, an organization that supports a unit of deployed soldiers by taking care of their families at home, nominated GreyStone for that honor. McCullough called that award “very significant,” since typically the award is given to individuals, not corporations.
GreyStone’s Patriot Award information was passed on to a board that selects the Seven Seals award recipients.
McCullough said that the board looks at who goes above and beyond in support of men and women in uniform. “GreyStone is among the elite in support of America’s troops,” he said. Only 11 Seven Seal awards have been given to companies or individuals over the past three years in the state of Georgia.
GreyStone President/CEO Gary Miller accepted the award. “GreyStone has always been very proud and appreciative of those who serve in our armed forces. It’s an honor for us, first of all, to be able to support the Guard and their families. We don’t do it for the recognition. We think they ought to be treated as the heroes they are,” Miller said.
GreyStone employees who have served in the armed forces and were in attendance included Freddy Boyd, Stephen Bragg, Abby Frasier, Angie Pagan, Jarred Stevens, Dennis Maxwell, Rudy Echols, Ken Statham, Glenn Purcell, Jim Hunter, Jerry Tucker and Don Fischel. Other GreyStone veterans include Flint Weathers, Butch Harper, Ronnie Martin and Brian Mills.
