James Wilford Dempsey, 90, Dies

The family will receive friends from Clark Funeral Home today from 5 until 8 p.m. Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA, is in charge of arrangements.

James Wilford Dempsey, 90 of Dallas, passed away on Friday, Jan. 17, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 7, 1924, and was preceded in death by his parents, John Dempsey and Myrtle Gulledge Dempsey; brother, Jack Dempsey; sisters, Laura Cole, Esther Turner, Elizabeth Cole, Della DeFranco; and son-in-law, Danny Bennett. Mr. Dempsey was retired as a Carpenter with Carpenters’ Union 225, a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army and was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife 62 years, Virginia Dempsey; daughters, Linda Gregg of Alabama and Sandra Bennett of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Gena Britton of Dallas, GA, Paul Hitchcock of Dallas, GA, Danette Bennett of Dallas, GA and (honorary grandchild) Buck Cole of Dallas, GA; step- grandchildren, Natalie Bennett and Wesley Bennett both of Dallas, GA; five great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Monday, Jan. 20, at 3 p.m. from Clark Funeral Home, with Pastor Derrick Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Paulding Memorial Gardens with Paul Hitchcock, Buck Cole, Frankie Britton, Dakota Britton, Brandon Hitchcock and Skipper Cole serving as pallbearers with Bobby Thompson and Rodney Sellers serving as honorary pallbearers.
