Cobb Police Warn of Bear Sighting on Due West Road

Authorities offer safety precautions in wake of sighting.

Cobb County Police warned residents Monday morning that a black bear had been sighted by a resident on Due West Road on the west side of the county.

Authorities encourage those living nearby to keep their animals inside their homes and eliminate outdoor food sources that may attract the bear.

Cobb Police sent out the warning through Nixle, which puts out alerts to users via the web, e-mail and text message. There is no cost to use the service. Nixle is also utilized by the , which uses it to , whether it be weather alerts to road conditions to missing people.

Paulding authorities say Nixle and other similar technologies . Deputies found him later that day after being notified by a resident who spotted him after reading an alert sent by the sheriff's office.
