Dallas Man Killed in Tennessee Wreck

The accident, about five miles south of Jackson, was reported shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Highway Patrol report.

 

A Dallas man was killed Wednesday in Tennessee after he ran off the road and his truck hit a tree.

James Westmoreland, 54, was traveling south on U.S. 45 near Jackson when his 2005 GMC Sierra pickup veered into the median and hit a traffic sign, the Jackson Sun reported, citing a Highway Patrol report.

Westmoreland over-corrected and the truck went back across the southbound lanes and hit a tree.

The accident, about five miles south of Jackson in Madison County, was reported shortly before 3 p.m., according to the Highway Patrol report.

Westmoreland was the only person in the truck. He was wearing a seat belt, according to the Jackson Sun.

There have been 16 traffic fatalities in Madison County this year, according to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. There were only 12 for all of 2010.

In 2010, there were 953 total accident fatalities. Year to date, there have been 841 in 2011.
