Dallas Man Shot in Powder Springs

Lorelle Gibert survived the incident April 27, which happened in the area of Misty Morn Way and Morning Side Drive.

A Dallas man was shot in the face last week in Powder Springs, and as he attempted to drive away, he lost control of his car and wrecked into the woods.

A Powder Springs police report indicates that Lorelle Gibert survived the April 27 incident and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Powder Springs-Lithia Springs Patch first reported the shooting.

Police were dispatched about 8:20 p.m. on a call of shots fired, the report says. Someone from the Cobb County 911 Communications Center said “several complainants” saw multiple people running from the area of Misty Morn Way and Morning Side Drive.

Because of his injuries, Gibert, who was in the driver’s seat when he was shot, could not say much when police found him, the report says. A passenger, JT Freeman, said the two were in the neighborhood to drop his brother’s friend off.

Freeman told police that when his brother’s friend was out of the car and Gibert started to drive away, Gibert said: “Get down, there’s going to be trouble.”

The “next thing he knew, he heard a shot, and Mr. Gibert was hit,” the report says. Gibert tried to drive off but lost control of the car and wrecked in the woods.

The two ran, not knowing if they were being chased, then stopped to ask for help, the report says.

Freeman said he didn’t see anyone or a car, didn’t know anyone in the area, and couldn’t provide the name of his brother’s friend.

Police called Paulding County’s 911 center to see whether Gibert’s family could be reached. No one picked up at the residence listed for Gibert.

Freeman indicated on his Facebook wall the next day that Gibert was awake but couldn’t talk or have visitors. Later that day, he posted that he was able to talk with Gibert.
