Dallas Resident Dies After Monday Afternoon Crash

The wreck was fatal for 26-year-old Jeremy Richard Marston; two others sustained injuries.

A Monday afternoon crash claimed the life of a Dallas man.

Killed in a two-car crash on Highway 278 at Thomas B. Murphy Drive was 26-year-old Jeremy Richard Marston, according to Lt. Paul Cosper of the Georgia State Patrol Wednesday afternoon. A passenger in the Pontiac Grand Prix Marston was driving was 26-year-old Nicole Lynn Smith of Hampton, who was life-flighted to . Cosper said that while initial reports did not specify Smith’s injury level type, “She was really banged up bad,” he said.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, William David Kitchens, 26, of Cedartown, also was taken to Kennestone Hospital. Cosper said Kitchens was transported for non-fatal injuries, adding that Kitchens had been wearing his seatbelt and had the airbag of his Chevrolet Cavalier deploy in the crash.

Cosper said the crash, which occurred about 4 p.m. on Monday, occurred when Kitchens’ Cavalier, which was going west on 278, struck Marston’s Grand Prix on the driver’s side as the latter vehicle was making a left turn onto 278 from Thomas B. Murphy Drive.

Charges are pending as the investigation continues, which Cosper said could last several weeks. Local drivers to allow for members of the GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team to inspect the crash area.
