Did Hiram Police Catch the ‘Lollipop Bandit’?

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the man arrested Monday in connection with Saturday's robbery at the Bank of America branch in Hiram could soon be linked to similar crimes in Cobb County.

Authorities Monday afternoon were working to determine if the man arrested earlier in the day in connection with was involved in other crimes in neighboring Cobb County.

Devin Johnson, 28, after being arrested at a friend’s house in Roswell about 10:30 a.m. Monday. But more charges could be pending if authorities can link him to two other robberies.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Johnson may be the “Lollipop Bandit” suspect who robbed two Cobb banks in May. During each robbery, the suspect sucked a lollipop.

On May 11, announced that that occurred that morning at a bank in Mableton. In that incident, a black man walked into the bank sucking a lollipop and handed a teller a note stating that he had a gun. He then demanded and received an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot.

That man was described as being about 5-feet-9-inches tall and about 180 pounds. Witnesses said he was last seen wearing a black hoodie and a white T-shirt underneath, dark shorts, black-and-white sneakers and a hat with an Atlanta Falcons emblem on it.

A week later, Cobb Police —this time in connection with a late-morning robbery at a in Marietta. The perp was described as a 5-foot-9 black man wearing a black do-rag, khaki shorts and large black-brown-and-white sunglasses.

Detective Donald Roberts of the told Dallas-Hiram Patch Monday afternoon that other law enforcement agencies were talking to Johnson regarding robberies in Cobb County. Roberts said he was unfamiliar with the details of the Cobb cases in question.

According to Johnson’s booking report from the Paulding County Detention Center (the document is attached to this article), the 28-year-old Johnson—who resides at a Cathers Creek Drive residence in Hiram—is 6-feet-1-inches tall and weighs 155 pounds. Hiram Police over the weekend announced they were seeking a man in his late 20s or early 30s with a lean build and standing an estimated 6 feet tall.

Dallas-Hiram Patch will be in touch with authorities to learn if Johnson will face charges related to the crimes tied to the “Lollipop Bandit” or other incidents in Paulding, Cobb or other counties.
