Funeral Set for Man Shot by Agents

Danny Hammett succumbed to his injuries after being shot Wednesday during the execution of a drug warrant. No arrests have been made in the wake of the drug investigation so far.

Funeral arrangements have been made for a Hiram man who died Wednesday after Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force agents shot him during the execution of a search warrant.

The family of Danny Hammett will hold visitation at Clark Funeral Home in Hiram today from 4 to 8 p.m. Hammett’s funeral is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Hammett’s death on Wednesday came less than an hour and a half after HPDTF agents and Paulding deputies executed a narcotics search warrant at 3851 Nebo Road in Hiram. According to a Paulding County Sheriff’s Office news release, prior to the warrant’s execution, HPDTF agents had been investigating the occupants of the residence in reference to narcotics sales. According to those agents, there had been narcotics purchases as well as several narcotics complaints on the residence.

Hammett was shot once by agents after authorities say he raised his hands up in an aggressive manner while he holding a black shiny object pointed toward agents, later determined to be a canister of pepper spray. Hammett was immediately given medical care on the scene and was subsequently flown to Grady Hospital in Atlanta, where he succumbed to his injuries.

No agents were injured in the incident.

Authorities in their release Thursday said a search of the Nebo Road home revealed that there was evidence that would indicate drug trafficking. As of Friday morning, no arrests had been made as a result of the investigation, Cpl. Ashley Henson told Dallas-Hiram Patch.

Henson added that it is unclear as to whether or not there will be any arrests in the case.

Are you Flipping kidding me????? The bread winner!!!!!! They were there because of drug trafficing!!!!
Gordon October 20, 2012 at 05:27 AM
I do not know what happened at this place and time but do know for a fact that most paulding sheriff's can NOT do their job as when called but wants to leave and go to " more important" things to do, or "wasting their time" when they get PAID to server the public, yes, public servants! Fact, they have tried to quote private business practice that they had NO clue on what they were talking about and distroyed recording proving they were intimidating and making threaten remarks. And called to make a report on property and made up the complete report. Now if we want to start calling out the officer's names we can do that too!
Gordon October 20, 2012 at 05:38 AM
I have not or do not do the drugs or approve of any type of use, but made a comment truthfully about practices I know of for a fact done by the paulding sheriff's on several times. you brought drugs into the hole subject so I'm sure you are the drug expert and user. My drug of choice is tacrolimus, sumatriptan succinate, and you all fell so quickly into the pot of fire that can be started so quickly by making a comment and watching for a reaction, congrats all. . . . . . . .

I am curious about the mase they found that Mr. Hammett was holding like a gun.Is it not amazing that the officer that shot him just so happened to have forgotten his mase that day. Mr. Hammett's finger prints are probably nowhere on it. That whole thing should never have happened. The drug task force puts way too much faith in their informants. Do they not understand the only reason they are informants is because they themselfs are trying to lesson their own drug charges. Think they won't lie? Could a more seasoned officer not led the way?An officer with no experience led the way in. Good move, that's what we have to serve and protect our elderly not kill them. PDNew

Silverchief October 20, 2012 at 11:38 AM
@ Pamela....It's "Mace", not "Mase"......Couple questions, How do you know which officer fired the shot and that he/she forgot their mace??? How do you know how much experience the officer had since, as far as I know, they haven't released who that officer is. Inquiring minds would like to know.
Amy m October 20, 2012 at 11:44 AM

Silverchief October 20, 2012 at 11:56 AM
Not talking bad about anyone....There are statements being made that have no foundation of fact. It is sad when there is a loss of life, I wasn't there and I lay no blame on anyone. Sorry about your Uncle.....:>(

JUSTIN HAMMETT October 22, 2012 at 02:07 AM
i sat here and listened to you bash my dad enough, none of you were there and since you want to be so quick to stick up for the sheriff's office/ narcotics team why dont you call them and see if they will tell you the truth because the sure the hell wont tell us. and they have already changed their stories several times the GBI has the investigation now and they will let it be known, the facts are the facts, they served a drug warrant did not find and drugs or weapons in the house, a man was murdered for what? my dad worked with me and he just walked in his house from a day of work. so get your facts together before you go sticking up for the sheriff/police THEY WERE WRONG FOR KILLING AN UNARMED MAN NO 2 WAYS ABOUT IT AND THEY KNOW IT. A TEAM THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE TRAINED TO DO THIS KIND OF JOB FAILED!!!!!!!!!!!! AND AS FAR AS IT GOES FOR THEIR SNITCHES THEY DID A POOR JOB, IF THEIR INFO WAS ACCURATE THEY WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE WOULD THEY NEED TO USE DEADLY FORCE, HE IS 60YRS OLD 160LBS. WALKS WITH A LIMP, SOMETIMES WITH A CAIN. HE IS ON OXYGEN AND HAS A HARD TIME WALKING WITH OR STANDING FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME AND THEY FELT HIM AS A THREAT COME ON... 10 OFFICERS COULDN'T HANDLE HIM?????????????? AND WHAT ABOUT THEIR TAZER OR THEIR PEPPER SPRAY? ILL TELL YOU THEY WERE TRIGGER HAPPY AND MADE A HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Martha Snyder October 23, 2012 at 03:05 PM
I agree that your dad should never have been killed with deadly force. The poor man was in his own home, and even if he did have something in his hand, he was just going about his own business when they barged in. I don't live too far from the house, and it made me want to cry to hear what happened. We should be safe in our homes, but this man's life was taken and the family will never ge the same. It reminds me of the Kathryn Johnston case, and I hope they don't get away with this.

I guess u people that r blind and stupid let inform u "THERE WAS NO DRUGS".
bo October 29, 2012 at 05:39 PM
he was my uncle, and every news article it seems is to cover up what really happened, he was shot 3 times not one, one of them was a fatal shot that didnt need to happen, he puts his hands up like they ask him to and they shot him for it, they say he had a black shiny object in his hand, and in the very breath before that they say the room was to dark to see whats going on, i thank u for your thoughts and prayers, and they will all have to answer to god, may his will be done
bo October 29, 2012 at 05:45 PM
well cheif, it seems that u think u have inside information your self, ftp, take ya crroked cops side if u must, but that was my uncle and i know for a fact he was helpless, look at the final picture of him and my cousins does he look like a threat to anyone, they followed him from the ingles to his house then kicked his door in, they targeted him, then executed him, they could have pulled him over b4 he reached his house if drugs were the issue, no arrest were made, think what u will but god will be done, all involved will answer to my lord and savior
bo October 29, 2012 at 06:12 PM
all will answer for their sins, all will be judged, i love jesus, but ftp

Please make sure you retain an attorney in this matter. The GBI is not independent. The only way to get to the bottom of this is to file a civil action and depose the officers who were there, under oath. Hopefully, one of them is willing to tell the whole truth. First they came for the drug users, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a drug user. Then they came for the african americans, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a african american. Then they came for the poor people, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't poor. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.

Have there ever been any arrests made from the Hammett residence and their alleged drug trafficking? I doubt it. So, Mr Hammett died for nothing. Sad.
Justice For Danny Hammett November 09, 2012 at 12:59 AM
I am one of the family members and i can say that if he was doing anything wrong then don`t everyone think that the police would have found something at his house??? They did not find anything there. The paper spray was for him to repo car`s which was only for safety at night time while he was working. If they knew for sure that there was drugs in his house then why did they not tell the new crew that they found drugs?? He was an older man that could not even breath without treatments. He had COPD that is not easy to live with. He worked with one of his son`s cause he needed to pay his bills. His son would let him do the easy parts of the repo because of how sick he was. I do hope which ever one shot him and said hate it for you while he laid there and died can sleep at night. His kids have nightmares at night and his son Justin Hammett had to pay to lay his father to rest after the police killed him which the police should have paid and paid their respects for what they done even if they think the was wrong. He left many of family members behind. He had a great grandchild on they way he never got to meet. If the police was scared of a 60 year old man that was 5`5 and weight 160 pounds then they need to take more training. For everyone who don`t know this family or has something bad to say them then don`t say nothing at all.
Justice For Danny Hammett November 09, 2012 at 12:59 AM
Everyone that shot at Danny Hammett i hope y`all have nightmares and i hope that your heart brakes just like his kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren hearts do. Everyone pray for justice for Danny
Joy November 17, 2012 at 02:53 AM
There was another case of someone snitching on another that raided another house 2 days before this happened. found nothing. This was senseless. I know this family and can't believe that they can barge in a house and shoot someone but then have to wait on a search warrant? Wouldn't that come first in order to come into a house? Justin, you just hang in there. It not easy to see why this happened the way it did. In the end, the truth will come out. I have a feeling this isn't over yet. Miss you at school.
