Police: Wife Accused of Killing Husband

Jeanie Rebecca Caldwell was found in the woods near a burning house where her husband was discovered dead.

A Paulding County woman has been charged with killing her husband after his body was found in a burning house.

Jeanie Rebecca Caldwell, 59, was found in the woods Saturday near the couple's burning house where Billy Gene Caldwell, 64, was discovered dead.

An autopsy confirmed that Caldwell’s death was a homicide, according to Cpl. Ashley Henson, Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Police then began interviewing her about the incident.

After the interview, Caldwell was subsequently charged with the felony murder of her husband. Jeanie Caldwell is currently being held in the Paulding County Detention Center without bond.

Supposedly, according to someone who claimed to know the people, the husband was severely ill and plagued with constant pain, suggesting that this was a mercy-killing. Haven't seen any mention of that in any news report though.

He was very sick...I've known this couple for over 10 years. They loved each other very much. You never saw one without the other. I've not spoken with Jeanie yet....but this is so out of character for her. She is/was the most loving, giving person I've ever met.

This is such a tragedy, and Billy will be missed. I still cannot believe such a loving couple had to end this way. Our prayers go out to all of Billy Jeans family and friends....may he rest in peace.
