Sheriff’s Office Warns of Police Impersonators

A wallet was taken from a woman during a Friday night incident involving two men in a black Ford Crown Victoria.

Authorities Saturday night alerted Paulding residents about two police impersonators involved in a Friday night theft.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office sent out the alert that stated that a woman had her wallet taken by two white men in a black Ford Crown Victoria that had a blue light on the dashboard. The woman was driving in southern Paulding County when she was stopped by the vehicle that resembled one belonging to law enforcement.

The men, said to have been dressed in business attire, approached the driver, who was alone. Once the men made contact with her, one of them took her wallet. Both men then fled the scene.

The sheriff’s office warns residents that those stopped by law enforcement are allowed to drive to a well-lit area before pulling over and should turn on their hazard lights and slow their speed below the speed limit while doing so. Those who are not sure if they are being pulled over by actual law enforcement can call 911 to confirm the presence of an actual officer.

The sheriff’s office has received reports of police impersonators before. This past December, deputies sought information on a black male driver who was wearing a dark, long-sleeve jumpsuit .

Those with information on the recent police impersonators are asked to call the Paulding County Sheriff's Office at 770-443-3010.
