Teen Remains in Critical Condition After Monday Crash

Morgan Motes, 13, of Dallas was taken to a Chattanooga hospital following two-vehicle wreck on Dallas Nebo Road. Charges are pending against the driver of the vehicle said to have caused the crash.

Two teens were transported to out-of-town hospitals, and one remains in critical condition, following a Monday morning wreck on Dallas Nebo Road near Sam Alexander Road.

Lt. Paul Cosper of the Georgia State Patrol on Tuesday afternoon said 13-year-old Morgan Motes of Dallas was life-flighted to an Erlanger Health System location in Chattanooga after sustaining head injuries in the two-vehicle crash that happened about 8:25 a.m. Monday. He said at last check, Motes remained in critical but stable condition following treatment and surgeries.

The vehicle Motes had been in, a maroon Toyota Tundra, was driven by her father, 34-year-old Ronald William Motes. Riding with the two had been 13-year-old Adam Paul Norman; his injuries led him to be taken by EMS ground transport to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. Cosper said that according to the crash report, Norman suffered an “incapacitating-type injury,” and although no specifics were given, “[Morgan Motes'] injuries were probably worse than his,” he said.

Both teens had to be extricated from the backseat of the Tundra by Paulding County Fire and Rescue, said Cpl. Brandon Gurley of the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Also involved in the crash was a white Ford F250 driven by 35-year-old James Lee Fuller of Dallas. Cosper said charges against Fuller are pending.

“Right now on the report, the indications are that he was on the wrong side of the roadway. All the charges right now are pending lab results and everything,” Cosper said.
