Updated 2 p.m.

The arrests Monday of two women on felony murder charges were the results thus far of an investigation into a death that occurred in late May.

The U.S. Marshal’s Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Monday 45-year-old Elgerie Mary Cash of Stockbridge and 20-year-old Jennifer M. Weathington of Powder Springs; the two are mother and daughter. Both remained in the Paulding County Detention Center as of Tuesday afternoon.

According to Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ashley Henson, the women each face a felony murder charge over the May 30 death of 44-year-old Lennis Donovan “Donny” Jones, though Jones’ obituary, as posted by , lists the Marietta resident and father of five at 42 years old.

According to a news release sent by Henson Tuesday afternoon, Jones died as a result of a gunshot to the head in an incident that occurred at 28 Fernwick Court in Dallas about 3 p.m. May 30.

Henson said Jones knew both Cash and Weathington.

“We waited on autopsy results, consulted with the medical examiner, there were some inconsistencies with evidence at the scene and evidence with the individual that was murdered,” Henson said, adding that the case has remained open since it began.

“So we’ve been sorting out some inconsistencies in the case, and as the result of a thorough investigation, we’ve finally been able to get murder warrants.

Officials didn’t want to rule out any possibilities, whether it be "suicide, murder or accidental or whatever,” Henson added. “In their investigation, they realized they had enough then to believe it was a murder.”

Henson said further charges are possible against other people who might have been involved.

Anyone that may have information relating to the case is asked to contact the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-443-3010.
