Vigil Focused on Violence Victims, Survivors

Ben Hill Strickland Sr. Memorial Park will be the site of tonight's candlelight vigil being held during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

In observance of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a candlelight vigil will be held tonight at Ben Hill Strickland Sr. Memorial Park.

The vigil, which begins at 7 p.m., is aimed at remembering Georgia victims who have died as a result of domestic violence, as well as celebrating the survivors of such violence.

The event will include testimonies from domestic violence survivors and families of the victims. Guest speakers include State Sen. Bill Heath, R-Bremen; and Dr. Kathryn Melton, executive director of Shepherd’s Rest Ministries Inc. Also set to speak are three officials from the city of Hiram: Mayor Doris Devey, Police Chief Gary Yandura and Police Chaplain Rich Erdman.
