Week in Review: Feb. 13-19

See the stories you may have missed from the past week.

Last week’s local news was an exercise in extremes.

We’ll start with the tragic news first. Monday saw the death of 42-year-old Catherine Hunt . We were on the scene just minutes after firefighters were called to extinguish the blaze that destroyed two houses and damaged a third. .

Another Paulding resident . Nicholas Black, 24, of Dallas died after a four-vehicle crash that happened Monday in Cartersville.

Our hearts go out to Catherine’s and Nicholas’ families and friends in these trying time.

In other stories involving law enforcement, two men were sentenced last week following convictions in child exploitation cases. Anthony Francis Paleveda, 21, of Dallas for enticing a child for indecent purposes and two counts of child molestation against a then-12-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 15 years for each count, with 10 years in confinement and the remaining on probation.

Tracy Scott Parrott, 42, of Dallas . In a plea agreement with the state he pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual exploitation of children. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with three years in confinement and the remainder on probation.

In brighter law enforcement news, to more effectively assist individuals with mental illnesses and other brain disorders who are in a crisis.

Two local teams hit the hardwood last week in their attempt to advance to the state tournament, but their opponents had other plans. The and teams of East Paulding High were ousted by teams from Pope High in their respective Region 5-AAAA tournaments.

In other school news, this time on the academic side, our weekly “” is one and now moves onto state-level competition.

It may be hard in the near future to not cross youths on a mission—to sell you sweets. But if you’re a fan of Girl Scout Cookies, we’re here to let you know .
