Woman Dies on Silver Comet Trail

A woman is dead after an ATV crash on the Silver Comet Trail Friday night. Police believe alcohol was involved.

A woman is dead after she and a friend riding in an ATV crashed the motorized vehicle on the Silver Comet Trail shortly after midnight.

The woman, 52-year-old Elizabeth Z. Neesley of Austell, was ejected from her seat in the red ATV when it collided with a metal pole placed in the middle of the trail to prevent motor vehicles access on the trail. After the vehicle collided with the pole, it caught fire and burned, police said.

Randall P. Gianisiracusa, 52, of Austell, was the other occupant of the ATV. He sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, which occurred east of Floyd Road.

Gianisiracusa was treated at the scene and then released.

Cobb Police are investigating the crash and have not yet determined who was driving the vehicle when it crashed.

Officer Mike Bowman stated in a release, "Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash and charges may be pending upon completion of this investigation."

The Silver Comet Trail runs west through Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties.
