Americans For Prosperity To Rally in Atlanta Thursday

The organization, whose Georgia chapter is based in Hiram, will protest new Environment Protection Agency regulations.

Members of Americans For Prosperity will gather outside the Sam Nunn Building in Atlanta on Thursday to protest new Environmental Protection Agency energy regulations and call for “environmental sanity” in Georgia. The rally will be held at 11 a.m. during the EPA’s own conference promoting the regulations.

Americans For Prosperity of Georgia is based in Hiram.

In a release earlier this week, AFP officials said the regulations will cause the cost of energy for Georgia families to skyrocket and will cost the state thousands of jobs. The rally will feature Virginia Galloway, state director of Americans For Prosperity; Patti Gettinger, vice chair of The Georgia Tea Party; Lance Brown, executive director of Partnership for Affordable Clean Energy; Julianne Thompson (GA Tea Party Patriots) others.

The release stated that according to research from the American Legislative Exchange Council and others, Georgia stands to directly and indirectly lose over 11,000 jobs due to these regulations. Also, middle class Georgia families will see an estimated 8.2-to 10-percent rise in their electricity rates.

“EPA’s regulatory action will dramatically impact Georgians for the worse, raising energy costs at and the prospect of job loss at a time when Georgia already suffers under an ongoing economic recession and 9-percent unemployment,” Galloway said in the news release. “Research shows these regulations will have a negligible impact on environmental performance. Even the EPA’s own representatives have conceded this point.”
