Called Meeting To Address Anti-Nepotism Ordinance

Hiram officials Tuesday morning announced a called meeting set for today at 5:30 p.m.

Hiram city councilmen will meet today at 5:30 p.m. for a special called meeting with a three-item agenda that includes a proposed amendment to the city’s anti-nepotism ordinance. Both the agenda and ordinance are attached to this article.

Cynthia Geyer, Hiram’s city administrator and clerk, said the proposed amendment would provide a more specific definition of fraternization. The current ordinance, approved during a Jan. 4 called meeting, discourages fraternization between employees due to the “high possibility of undesirable consequences of ramifications for both the employees involved and the City,” according to the ordinance language. The policy also prohibits fraternization between a department head or supervisor and an employee they directly or indirectly supervise.

The council is also slated to consider entering into a contract with Shaw Hankins to provide insurance for city employees. Councilmen could also review and approve their meeting schedule for the 2012 calendar year.
